1. To work out development strategies, relevant policies, and mid-term and long-term development plans on the economic and trade cooperation with countries and regions in west Asia and Africa. To coordinate, organize and facilitate the accomplishment of annual objectives.

2. To be responsible for studying the economy and trade in countries and regions in west Asia and Africa, monitoring and analyzing the developments in bilateral trade and economic relationship. To coordinate China’s position on the trade and economic cooperation with these countries and regions, and deal with important issues in these bilateral relationships.

3. To organize bilateral mixed and joint committee meetings; undertake the responsibility of conducting bilateral economic and trade negotiations and signing relevant documents; To coordinate and follow up on the economic and trade cooperation issues under the framework of China-Africa Cooperation Forum.

4. To supervise the implementation of multilateral and bilateral economic and trade agreements signed by foreign governments with China, and conduct negotiations with foreign parties on issues concerned. To assist Chinese companies in their efforts to have access into foreign market.

5. To implement the market diversification strategy in countries and regions in west Asia and Africa; To take charge of the establishment of “Centers for the Promotion of Chinese Investment and Bilateral Trade” in the countries and regions in the area and the corresponding coordinating work, and to draw out relevant development and management policies. To regulate trade and other economic activities with nations without diplomatic relationship with China.

6. To coordinate and regulate the business work of Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Offices of Chinese embassies in west Asia and Africa, set up an applicable assessment and evaluation mechanism to urge and check up the accomplishment of tasks. To connect with official commercial missions of countries and regions in west Asia and Africa in China.　

7. To undertake other tasks assigned by the ministerial leaders.
